Woman killed in Borella: Two soldiers arrested

Two soldiers have been arrested in connection with the incident in which a woman was killed from gunshot wounds in Borella last night (13).

A 25-year-old woman residing at Halgahakumbura in Baseline Mawatha was killed in the incident.

Police said the woman was shot when a firearm of one of the soldiers got activated while they were attempting to arrest a suspect.

The people who were at the scene had taken steps to hospitalise the victim but she was pronounced dead on admission.

The body has been placed in the mortuary of the Colombo National Hospital and the Borella Police are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, the residents suspect that the woman has been shot intentionally.

Joint Combined Exchange Training with US Army concludes in Trincomalee

The Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) Balance Style 01/2023 conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and the U.S. Army came to an end at the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) Headquarters in Trincomalee over the weekend.

 The certificate awarding ceremony was held under the patronage of Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Mahesh De Silva on Saturday.

Thirty-six (36) Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) personnel from SBS (24) and 04th Fast Attack Flotilla (12) and nine (09) members of Special Force Operational Detachment Alpha participated in JCET 01/2023 training program from  27th February to  24th March 2023.

The Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) mainly focused on Mission Planning (MP), Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), Close Quarter Battle (CQB), Combat Marksmanship & Sniper Training (CMST), etc. with the theoretical and practical sessions.

Commanding Officer  04th Fast Attack Flotilla, Captain Thusara Mahesh, Commanding Officer Special Boat Squadron, Commander Dharmasiri Herath, members from the SFODA – 1121 of the U.S. Army and a group of naval personnel were present on this occasion.

New school term starts tomorrow!

The first phase of the first term of the year 2023 in government and government approved private schools is scheduled to start tomorrow (27).

The semester will be held from tomorrow to April 4th.

Schools will then be closed for the New Year holiday from April 5th to 16th.

Accomplice of ’’Kudu Salindu’’ arrested

A suspect running the drug network of the main shooter of “Kudu Salindu” has been arrested, the Special Task force said today (March 25).

Officers of STF organized Crime III had conducted a raid on the Panadura-Horana road where a 33 year old man was in possession of 10kg of cannabis and Rs. 100,000 was arrested.

The suspect had been transporting it on a motorbike in the guise of a food delivery.

The suspect was revealed to be the person who handled the drug network in Panadura and the financial affairs of the main shooter of Underworld mobster Kudu Salindu, “Beliatta Rana”, who is currently in Dubai.

In the past three years, the STF has seized 217kg 328g of heroin, 47kg 47g of ice, 4722kg of Cannabis, 70461 illegal drugs and 11023 drugs pills have been seized.
