Yunnan Governor to arrive today; Cabinet approval to sign MoU

Governor of China’s Yunnan Province – Mr. Wang Yubo, is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tonight (16), according to diplomatic sources.

Meanwhile, it has been proposed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Yunnan and the Department of External Resources of Sri Lanka during the visit of Governor Yubo who will be in the country till May 20.

This MoU is expected to provide support to Sri Lanka in the spheres of mutual travel, economy, trade and commerce, education, tourism, agriculture, human cultural exchange, people’s quality of life and health.

Accordingly, a proposal presented by the President as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policy to sign the MoU has been approved by the Cabinet.

130 free cataract operations
Meanwhile, a 10-member medical team from the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Yunnan, China arrived at Colombo last Saturday (13).

According to the Chinese embassy, they will be conducting 130 cataract surgeries free of charge for Sri Lankan underprivileged patients this week.

The embassy further notes that 26 patients from the Eastern Province, accompanied by their families, have left for Colombo yesterday to receive free cataract surgeries by the Yunnan medical team at Lanka Hospitals.

The patients have also been provided with transportation, accommodation and meals, the embassy adds.
