Zahran Hashim’s brother-in-law, who was on bail after being remanded for three years, was arrested by the Kochchikade Police while he was returning from Katupotha in Kuliyapitiya to his wife’s parents’ house in Kochchikade in Negombo.
His wife was also arrested.
A senior police officer has told Lankadeepa that the arrested suspect is the brother of Fathima, the wife of Zaharan Hasim who is the mastermind of Easter Sunday attacks.
The couple were arrested by a team of officers from the Kochchikade Police led by Chief Inspector Srinika Jayakodi, based on intelligence information received by the police.
The senior officer said the arrested male suspect who was in remand custody since 2019 has been released on bail by the High Court on September 23, 2022.
