What if even your shadow abandons you not just in the dark, but also in the brightest light of noon? Today (April 07) is such a day for Colombo – a Zero Shadow day.
According to astronomer Anura C. Perera, this phenomenon will occur in Colombo today (April 07) at 12:12 p.m.
This optical illusion, known as “Zero Shadow Day” or “Lāhainā Noon,” occurs when the sun is directly overhead, making vertical objects cast no shadow. It is a biannual event that occurs in locations between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn when the sun is directly overhead.
This is part of a 10-day solar event from April 5 to April 15, during which the sun will pass directly overhead to different locations in Sri Lanka.
