The Picturesque Neelabemma tank is the only spot in the Puttalam district that never dries up.
The construction of the Neelabemma tank was completed in 1998 with funds from the European Economic Coalition aid and vested in the people. The length of the main weir is 485 feet and stands 85 feet above sea level and its normal height is 20 feet.
This tank will benefit 510 families.
Folklore has it that this weir was built initially by a giant Neela to enable his mother to be able to wash clothes easily. It is believed that the giant had placed the stones one by one carefully and sturdily to make the tank.
