Proceedings began at 10.00am and with Mahinda Rajapaksa taking up the PM seat.
The JVP submitted a No-Confidence motion against PM Mahinda Rajapaksa.
However, a heated situation took place after MPs tried to block the vote on standing orders. The Suspension of Standing Orders approved by a majority and PM Mahinda Rajapaksa had walked out of the House when the no confidence vote against him was about to be taken up.
Amid the chaos the No Confidence Motion was passed by parliament majority. However, the UPFA rejected vote saying no such vote was held.
Later, a motion with 122 signatures of Parliamentarians who have expressed lack of confidence in Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and his cabinet, was handed over to the Speaker and a copy was sent to president Maithripala Sirisena.
Today's sittings also saw four crossovers, with Vadivel Suresh, Wasantha Senanayake, A. H. M. Fowzie Piyasena Gamage & Manusha Nanayakkara crossing over to the UNP.
