Many of these herds of cattle gather at various points of the road, obstructing traffic which has led to the increase in road accidents.
Around 2000 cattle can be seen on the streets daily while cattle are most frequently seen on the Thanthirimale, Oyamaduwa, Settikulam, Nedunkulam, Kanagarayankulam, Murukkang, Chilawaturai, Musali, Mullikulam, Marichchikatti and Vavuniya main roads.
The Traffic Police have failed to take action against the owners of these cattle being let to graze freely, which has led to the cattle encroaching on the roads. If the police had taken action promptly this issue could have been avoided.
