Heavy traffic in Pettah (Pics)

We have received photos around the Pettah bus stand and of the Manning Market area, as a travel rush was reported from morning soon after the government announced an island-wide curfew.

With island-wide curfew to be imposed from 6pm today, heavy traffic has been reported from the Pettah area in Colombo.

With the public been instructed to work from home until March 27, many have thronged to the area to return to their home towns. However, with the announcement of islandwide curfew, many buses have stopped providing transport.

This has led to a lack of passenger buses.

No trains from 3.30pm ; Highways closed at 4pmIn a separate development, the Railway Control Room says that all train services will be halted from 3.30pm today and will resume at 6.00am on Monday (23).

The train departing at 3.30pm from Fort Railway Station to Mahawa will be the final train journey of the day, it said.

Meanwhile the Chairman of the Road Development Authority (RDA) Chaminda Athuluwage stated that vehicles will no be allowed entry to any of the expressways from 4.00pm today (20).
