SLFP office bearers led by former President Sirisena visited the Temple of Tooth Relic in Kandy today to obtain blessings and called on the Chief Prelates as well.
Speaking during a special media briefing in Kandy after the visit, the former President said the SLFP will provide maximum support to the present government, for the future of the country and its people.
He however said the party cannot remain silent regarding organizational activities.
The SLFP Chairman said there is much that needs to be done to ensure a SLFP led government is established, adding that progressive and patriotic parties must be identified in this regard.
He added the SLFP is supporting the government based on the same stance.
He further noted responsibilities have been allocated amongst the new office bearers, covering a broad portfolio.
On a separate note Former President Maithripala Sirisena said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has promised to abolish permission granted for dual citizenship holders to contest elections through the 20th Constitutional Amendment, by introducing a new Constitution.
