Despite Christmas being an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, it has also become a culturally festive season celebrated among billions of non Christians around the world.
However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, festivities are cut back for the second year in a row, with smaller crowds seen and less pomp and splendour.
In Colombo, festivities are largely non-existent in comparison to recent years, mainly due to the pandemic and economic woes. However, some public places in the heart of city were decked with seasonal lights.
