Indian HC supports underprivileged students in Mullaitivu ahead of Christmas

With Christmas 2024 around the corner, Consul General of India in Jaffna, Mr. Sai Murali, on behalf of the High Commission of India in Colombo and on behalf of the people of India, donated school bags, notebooks and study kits to 400 underprivileged students in Mulliyawalai, Mullaitivu District.

Consul General participated in the event as the Chief Guest, alongside other dignitaries including Rev. JJ Sarangapani, Founder & President of Mizpah Prayer Missionary Church, Brigadier Jayavinth of the 59 Division, Mullaitivu, as well as principals, teachers, youth, students and parents from the local community. 

In his address, Consul General expressed his gratitude to the Mizpah Prayer Missionary Church for partnering in this initiative to support the students during the Christmas month, embracing the spirit of sharing and the message of love and kindness. He highlighted India’s commitment to extending welfare measures to benefit students from various schools and universities in Sri Lanka, highlighting India’s close cooperation with the University of Jaffna and the Eastern University. He assured the gathering that this assistance to deserving school goers is only the beginning of many more initiatives aimed towards the holistic development of Mullaitivu.

President attends “Invest in Sri Lanka” session (Pics)

President Anura Kumara Disanayake, who is currently on a four-day state visit to China, participated in the “Invest in Sri Lanka – Round Table Meeting 2025” held today (Jan. 16), the President’s Media Division states.

The event was organized by both public and private sector entities with the aim of promoting investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.The session was attended by a number of prominent Chinese companies, including China Tianying Inc. (CNTY), China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd., China Communications Construction Company Ltd., China Petrochemical Corporation (SINOPEC Group), Metallurgical Corporation of China Ltd., China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), China Energy International Group Company Ltd., and The Guangzhou Public Transport Group, among others, the PMD adds.

President Disanayake also engaged in cordial discussions with the leadership of these corporations.

The forum was attended by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism – Vijitha Herath, Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation – Bimal Rathnayake, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka – Qi Zhenhong and Sri Lankan Ambassador to China – Majintha Jayesinghe, among others.

Talks between Xi – AKD commences (Video / Pics)

The official meeting between President Anura Kumara Disanayake and Chinese President Xi Jinping commenced a short while ago at at 05.00 pm Chinese time at the Great Hall of the People.

It is also expected that several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed following bilateral discussions between the two Presidents.

President AKD pays tribute at Mao Zedong mausoleum (Pics)

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake, who is currently on a state visit to China, visited the exhibition hall on the history of the Communist Party of China today (Jan. 15).

Following this, President Disanayake visited the historic Prince Kung’s Palace Museum in China.

Later, he paid his respects by offering flowers at the Mao Zedong Memorial, dedicated to the founding leader of the People’s Republic of China.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, and Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, Bimal Rathnayake, also participated in these events.
