New Year celebrations splashes colour in Beijing (Pics)

The ‘National New Year Day Celebrations’ at the Sri Lankan embassy in Being was held last Sunday (April 16) at the embassy premises.

The event was held throughout the day under the auspices of Sri Lankan ambassador to China – Dr. Palitha Kohona, featuring Sri Lankan traditions and games and bolstering cultural relations between the people of the two countries.

The event is jointly organised by the embassy and the Sri Lanka – China Economic, Education and Cultural Association.

The traditional oil anointing ceremony for the New Year and invoking of blessings will also be held at the event by the Vice-Chancellor of the Nagananda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS) – Ven. Dr. Bodagama Chandima Thera.

Sri Lankan nationals in China, including students participated in the event, which was webcast live by ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ as a joint collaboration with the Chinese state-owned video agency, CCTV+.

Sri Lanka’s national carrier – Sri Lankan Airlines also joined as the platinum sponsor of the live webcast.
