Hathuru sent letters over negligence of duty Featured

Sports Minister Harin Fernando said that measures were taken to send a letter to former Sri Lankan Cricket Coach Chandika Hathurusinghe, through a lawyer, over his failure to carry out his duties.

He had made this comment during the Sri Lanka-Pakistan match being played in Karachchi. “As former Coach Chandika Hathurusinghe had failed to carry out his duties, we sent him a latter through the lawyers. We had also focused our attention regarding recruitment of several news coaches as well. I won’t interfere in that as it is a responsibility vested with the Cricket Board. The Cricket Board had also discussed the matter with Hathurusinghe and it is my belief that they had taken action as they were not satisfied with Hathurusinghe’s explanation.”

The Minister said that even without Hathurusinghe he is content with the current situation for the players.

“When we ask the players, they are very happy with the current situation. The coach no longer needs to teach the players on how to hold the bat or how to spin the ball. As far as I see it, what is needed is for the coach to get together with the players and devise a plan to win matches.”

The Sports Minister also said that SLC had taken a decision to double the wages of the domestic players, adding that these are the improvements that are required.
