No captaincy for Mathews in Bangladesh tour Featured

Cricket administrators have decided to face the upcoming Bangladesh – Sri Lanka cricket encounter under a new captaincy, according to inside sources.

The new  captain is scheduled to be named by the end of this month.

This decision has been taken due to cricket administrators deciding to remove Angelo Mathews from the post of captaincy by February.

This decision was taken having considered many complaints received by the most senior players in the team to the Cricket Selection Committee and Sri Lanka Cricket Board.

The senior cricketers have complained that they are unable to participate in international tournaments under the captaincy of Mathews, it was reported.

Hence the decision to change the captaincy was taken after extensive discussions by the cricket selectors and senior officials.

Shortly, new captains will be named for the test team and one day games.

Four names have so far been short listed for the captaincies. They are; Dinesh Chandimal, Rangana Herath, Upul Tharanga and Lasith Malinga.

Of them two of the most senior members are scheduled to be awarded with the captaincies for the one day team and test team.

Mathews, who functioned as the captain of the Sri Lankan team for over three years since 2013, though removed from captaincy, will still be included in the Sri Lankan team.
