PM holds discussion Homagama cricket ground (Pics)
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today held a meeting with several former cricketers and government officials with regard to the proposed Homagama International Cricket Stadium.
Former cricketers - Roshan Mahanama, Mahela Jayawardena, Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya as well as senior player Lasith Malinga had attended the meeting.
In addition, Sports minister - Dulles Alahapperuma, President of Sri Lanka Cricket - Shammi Silva, former sports minister - Johnston Fernando, former SLC president - Thilanga Sumathipala and former MP - Namal Rajapaksa had attended the meeting.
According to reports, it has been generally agreed that constructing a cricket stadium was not necessary in the present situation.
Instead, the need for a broader programme to develop the sport in the country was discussed, it was proposed that a national plan should be formulated on this regard.
