The Minister speaking at an event said while steps were taken to close schools at the outset of the spread of the coronavirus in the country, schools will reopen only after the country’s health security has been ensured.
He noted however that as there are only a few more days to the 1st of June, reservations have been raised pertaining to the speedy timeline and examples have been made of challenges faced by other countries as well.
He stressed therefore that all steps will be taken gradually and carefully with the aim of preventing a recurrence of the virus.
Minister Alahapperuma said the country’s burning question at present has become as to when schools will reopen, adding preparations are underway to resume school activity.
However he stressed the decision to reopen schools cannot be taken lightly or hastily.
