The club had been given time until Sep. 30, 2020 to vacate the premises and the property had been handed over to the Divisional Secretariat last Friday.
Speaking to media, Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretary Mrs. Priyantha Dissanayake had said that she had received orders to handover the property to the Urban Development Authority (UDA).
Quoting an official of the UDA, the state owned 'Daily News' reports that the premises would be refurbished and added with modern sports facilities.
The UDA is planning to build a multi-storied sports and recreation complex on top of the current car park. “This would include a large banquet hall, hotel rooms and other entertainment options.”
