Mahela avoids minister’s meeting, refuses to be head coach! Featured

Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene has rejected a proposal to become the head coach of the England cricket team, according to UK media reports.

Chris Silverwood was the head coach of the England cricket team previously.

He was removed from the post after a heavy defeat in the Ashes series against Australia.

Sanga too avoids sports council

Meanwhile, the Divaina newspaper has reported that former Chairman of the National Sports Council Mahela Jayawardena and former member of the National Sports Council Kumar Sangakkara had not participated in the discussion chaired by the new Sports Minister Thenuka Vidanagamage convening the office bearers of the National Sports Council yesterday (22).

The new sports minister had invited former Chairman Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara to join the meeting via zoom at 10.30 AM yesterday.

As Mahela and Sanga are currently attached to the coaching staff of the IPL Cricket Tournament, arrangements were made to have them join the relevant discussion via Zoom technology, but they have not joined the discussion and the meeting had continued under the chairmanship of the Minister of Sports.

Several of the former sports council members had attended the meeting and the new sports minister had inquired from them if they would be joining the council again or not.

These officials had said that as all the former members were not present at yesterday’s meeting, it would be preferred if each one was contacted and their views sought individually.

The meeting had ended with that agreement and the sports minister had reportedly agreed to proceed as discussed at the meeting.
