SL retains hosting rights as Asia Cup shifted to UAE

The Asian Cricket Council has officially announced that the Asia Cup cricket tournament that was planned to be held in Sri Lanka will now be held in the United Arab Emirates from August 27 to September 11.

However, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah has said that Sri Lanka will continue to retain the hosting rights.

This decision has been taken taking into account the dire economic crisis the country is currently facing.

This will make it the second consecutive time that the tournament will be played in the UAE. The six-team Asia Cup will be played as a T20 tournament this year.

After a qualifying round between the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong, the winner will join the main tournament to face Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
