5 Sri Lankans at C'wealth Games, test Covid-19 positive Featured

Four athletes and a coach in the Sri Lankan contingent for the Commonwealth Games, have been tested Covid-19 positive.

They have been tested positive since their arrival in Birmingham, UK.

All participants staying in the Games Village had to undergo tests at the Welcome Centre.

According to a press release issued by the National Olympic Committee (NOC), two gymnasts and their coach, a basketball player, and a women's rugby player have been tested positive.

Earlier two men's rugby players Kavindu Perera and Adeesha Weerathunge tested positive before their departure on Sunday and were replaced by Iroshan Silva and Ramesh Fernando. A badminton player, a squash player and a gymnast also tested positive before departure and are in quarantine, according to the release.

The 22nd Commonwealth Games is to kick off later today with the participation of 5,054 athletes from 72 countries.
