Hong Kong debacle for Sri Lankans Featured

The Sri Lankan team to the Hong Kong Sixes tournament lost all its matches, excepting their opening game against Australia.

Playing under Fervez Mahroof, the team ended up in the seventh position in the tournament participated by eight teams.

The Sri Lankans lost to Bangladesh (their under 19 team), Hong Kong, South Africa and New Zealand.

The team for the tournament was chosen without any selection games or a pool.

Prioritized players from his former club

One selector had prioritized players from the club which he coached previously, including the captain.

Players such as Shalika Karunanayake, who excelled at the mercantile tournament and renowned for hitting sixes, were ignored.

The selector in question did not play for the country, and runs a night club, patronized by many players.

Players are planning to complain to the sports minister against him, say Sri Lanka Cricket sources.
