Mahela 'sad' over Kusal's removal

Former cricket captain Mahela Jayawardena has expressed sadness at the removal of Kusal Mendis from the Test squad named for the upcoming Test tournament against India.

Cricket fans have also taken to social media to voice their dismay.

In an earlier Tweet, Mahela has also said he doesn't understand how Mendis was not in the team. "Even he is not playing should be in India. That’s how young players learn," Mahela had added.

Kusal Mendis remains in second place among the top Test scorers playing for Sri Lanka since the Australian Test tour in 2016.

After getting his Test cap in 2015, Mendis has scored 1441 runs in 44 Test innings, which includes 03 centuries and 05 half centuries.

In addition to Mendis, Kaushal Silva and Nuwan Pradeep too, have been dropped from the Test squad and have been replaced by Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka and Angelo Mathews.

The opening match of the 3-match Test tournament against India will commence on Nov. 16 at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.
