3 more cricketers to be sent to Zimbabwe

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that three players will be flown to Zimbabwe to remain as ‘standby options” in case the national team taking part in the ICC Men’s #CWC23 Qualifier needs cover.

Accordingly, Dilshan Madushanka, Dunith Wellalage, and Sahan Arachchige will join the team in Bulawayo on June 23.

Festival of Netball 2025 officially launched in UK

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom hosted the official launch of “Festival of Netball 2025”, an initiative aimed at uniting Sri Lankan women residing in the UK through sport and camaraderie.

The Festival of Netball is spearheaded by the UK branches of the Old Girls’ Associations of Girls’ High School Kandy and Mahamaya Girls’ College Kandy. This initiative aims to promote sisterhood among Sri Lankan women in the UK while celebrating their invaluable contributions to society.

The launch event featured a speech by the Festival’s Honorary Patron, Dhammika Korakahagoda, and an engaging presentation outlining the goals and vision of the initiative preceding the unveiling of the Festival of Netball trophy. The Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom emphasized the significance of sport in generating unity, empowerment, and connection among Sri Lankan women in the UK, and highlighted that the Festival of Netball is a reminder of the perseverance, collaboration, and determination that women display in every sphere of life.

The tournament, scheduled to be held in June 2025, will bring together teams from past pupils’ associations of several Sri Lankan schools.

Royal College clinches 48th Mustangs Trophy

Royal College, Colombo, emerged victorious in the 48th Mustangs Trophy Annual One-Day International, defeating St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, by 04 wickets today (March 15).

Batting first, St. Thomas’ College posted a total of 220 runs before being bowled out in 49.1 overs.

Royal College chased down the target, scoring 223/6 in 46.4 overs, securing a well-fought victory and claiming the coveted trophy.

SL Women bag historic first T20I win in NZ

Sri Lanka Women’s cricket team made a dominant start to their three-match T20 series against New Zealand, securing a comfortable 7-wicket victory in Christchurch today (March 14).

Batting first, New Zealand Women struggled and were bowled out for 101 in 18.5 overs, with Emma McLeod top-scoring with 44 runs. 

Debutant Malki Madara delivered a stunning bowling performance, claiming 3 wickets for just 14 runs.

In response, Sri Lanka chased down the target in just 14.1 overs, losing only three wickets. 

Skipper Chamari Atapattu led from the front with an explosive 64 off 48 balls, hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes, and remained unbeaten as Sri Lanka sealed the win.
This victory marks Sri Lanka Women’s first-ever T20I win in New Zealand, having previously lost all three matches played there.
