Afghan tour : SL team yet to get minister’s approval

Published

on

The Sri Lankan squad selected for the upcoming series against Afghanistan is yet to receive the approval of the Sports Minister – Roshan Ranasinghe, ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ learns.

The squad was selected by the selection committee chaired by Pramodya Wickramasinghe.

The reason for this is there is an issue in the selection methodology when the committee chairman is not in the country to head the selections and add his signature for the selected team.

Another main reason is said to be that no physical fitness test has been conducted for the players since the Asian Cup.

According to reports, one player has a skin-fold test level of around 120 and the basis on which that player is selected for ODIs has also become questionable.

The three-match ODI home series against Afghanistan is to be held later this month. This is the first time the Afghan team is touring Sri Lanka and the tournament is to be held at the Pallekele grounds in Kandy.
