Anti doping laws to be amended

Sri Lanka Anti Doping Agency (SLADA) is an institution operating based on laws and regulations of World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) and, Sri Lanka Anti Doping Agency (SLADA) has to adhere to its laws and regulations if to gain opportunity to represent international sports events by Sri Lankan athletes.

 The World Anti Doping Agency (WADA), from time to time, reviews the anti doping law of each country and recommends the possible amendments. 

The international provisions existed in the year 2013 had been considered when the Convention Against Doping in Sports Act No. 33 of 2013 was formulated. 

The World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) has recommended a number of amendments to be made after reviewing the anti doping law of Sri Lanka for the year 2024. 

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the resolution submitted by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports to direct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a draft bill to amend the Convention Against Doping in Sports Act No. 33 of 2013.

CIABOC arrests Keheliya, wife & daughter

Former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife and daughter have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

They have been arrested over an investigation into their assets, according to the Bribery Commission.

Earlier this morning, former Minister Rambukwella appeared before CIABOC to record a statement.

CMC mayor assumes duties

Vraie Cally Balthazaar of the National People’s Power (NPP) officially assumed duties as Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Mayor today (June 18).

The most talked-about candidate in the 2025 Local Government Election, Balthazaar was elected the 26th Mayor of the CMC while receiving 61 votes following a secret ballot on Monday (June 16).

She becomes the second female Mayor of CMC, following Rosy Senanayaka.
