Australia wins sixth Women’s T20 World Cup

Australia won its sixth Women’s T20 World Cup title after defeating South Africa by 19 runs at Newlands, in South Africa on Sunday.

Australia, who previously won the title by defeating England and India in 2018 and 2020 respectively, have won the World Cup consecutively in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

The hosts fell short of the 157-run target despite a stellar batting performance from opener Laura Wolvaardt, who scored 61 (48) during the chase.

The Australian players won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 156 runs for 6 wickets.

The South African players who chased the goal could only score 137 runs after losing 7 wickets at the end of their 20 overs.

Beth Mooney was named Player of the Final Match and Ashley Gardner won Player of the Series title.
