Bhanuka released from ODI squad

All-rounder Bhanuka Rajapaksa has decided to withdraw from the Sri Lankan ODI squad named for the series against Afghanistan.

“Decided to withdraw from the ODi squad in hope to recover and refresh both physically and mentally,”  had Tweeted.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a list of 16 players that will take part in the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan beginning November 25, with all three games set to take place at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. However, the squad is still pending approval from the country’s Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

Sri Lanka’s squad for Afghanistan ODI series: Dasun Shanaka (C), Pathum Nissanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Dananjaya Lakshan, Kasun Rajitha, Maheesh Theekshana, Pramod Madushan, Asitha Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Lahiru Kumara, Bhanuka Rajapaksa*

In a Tweet, the SLC has said that Bhanuka’s name will be released from the squad following his request.

Mobile phones & SIM cards found in Pastor Jerome’s prison ward

It is reported that prison intelligence officers have discovered 33 mobile phones and 35 SIM cards during a sudden raid in the ‘G’ and ‘H’ wards of the Colombo Magazine Prison.

Pastor Jerome Fernando, who is currently being remanded on a court order,  has been detained in the ‘G’ ward of Magazine Prison since Dec. 01.

This sudden raid was carried out on the night of Dec. 02.

The Department of Prisons have handed over the seized phones and SIM cards and commenced further investigations.

Sri Lankan in Korea fatally stabbed by another Sri Lankan

A Sri Lankan working in Korea has been stabbed by another Sri Lankan, reports say.

The victim is a 29 year old named B.K. Shenith Dulaj Chathuranga, who is a resident of the Pamunugama area and a father of one.

According to reports, Chathuranga was stabbed in the heart while sleeping a Sri Lankan who had been residing in the adjoining room of the same house.

It is reported that the suspect had been picking fights with the victim for sometime.

The suspect is said to be in police custody.

Drivers on upcountry roads, warned

Nuwara Eliya District Disaster Management Centre has warned drivers to be cautious when driving along upcountry roads in the wake of adverse weather conditions.

Assistant Director of the Nuwara Eliya DMC – Nimal Bandara said drivers should be careful when on misty and slippery roads that are prone to earth slips and falling rocks.

He warned the drivers to pay particular attention to gear changes to control the vehicles at bends and in hilly areas.
