Dambulla Thunders team owner remanded (Update)

The owner of Lanka Premier League (LPL) Franchise, Dambulla Thunders, Tamim Rahman has been remanded after being arrested at the Katunayake Airport today.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has remanded the British citizen of Bangladesh origin, until May 31.

Dambulla Thunders team owner arrested

A Bangladeshi national with British citizenship, who is also a team owner of the Dambulla Thunders in the Lanka Premier League (LPL), was arrested today at Bandaranaike International Airport.

The arrest was made by the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Offenses Relating to Sports at the Sports Ministry, over allegations of match-fixing.

However, the exact charges against the LPL team owner are not yet clear whether it’s related to LPL or any other tournament.

The International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption team was present at the Lanka Premier League auction held in Colombo yesterday.

The arrested LPL team owner is expected to be produced before a magistrate’s court today.
