ICC officials meet President Ranil

The two International Cricket Council (ICC) officials including its Deputy Chairman – Imran Khwaja, who are in Sri Lanka to find out if there is any political interference in Sri Lankan cricket (SLC) have met with President Ranil Wickramasinghe this evening (11).

Their meeting with the President had been held immediately after the meeting with Sports Minister – Roshan Ranasinghe.

‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ learns that Sidath Wettamuny had also joined the discussion with the President.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe and the two officials including Vice President of the International Cricket Council Mr. Imran Khwaja, who are here these days to find out if there is any political interference in Sri Lankan cricket, met President Ranil Wickramasinghe this evening (11).

A media release issued by the Sports Ministry states that the minister has requested during the meeting to respect the law of the land as the authorities respected the ICC. He has added that he would continue to back Sri Lanka Cricket in the future as well, to do all that is right.

Noting that the national team has fallen from being World Cup winners to having to compete in the qualifiers, the minister pointed out that it is the responsibility of all including the SLC to recover and rise from this situation.

Special unit to provide updates on SriLankan flight delays

Minister Vijitha Herath has made a visit to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Colombo to look into the complaints received with regards to the delays in SriLankan flights.

During the visit, the minister had visited various sections of the airport while engaging in cordial discussions with the staff.

Minister Herath has emphasized the need to create a special unit representing the airport and SriLankan Airlines at the airport premises to provide passengers with immediate updates on flight delays while operating 24 hours a day and to provide maximum facilities to passengers during the delays.

Also, authorities have been instructed to take measures to minimize these delays.

DMC sets up special unit to tackle disasters during election

The Disaster Management Center says that a special program will be in place to manage potential disaster situations during the parliamentary election period. 

This special centre will be operational from tomorrow (Nov. 12) until Nov. 16.

Its Director Pradeep Kodippili says that the Department of Meteorology, Department of Irrigation, National Building Research Organization, triforces as well as the police will be joining forces for this cause.

MoH warns of scam

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has warned the public of a scam where a group of fraudsters are soliciting money while posing as ministry officials.

The Ministry has clarified that no official would request funds via calls, messages, or any communication channel.

Noting that legal action has been sought in this regard, the Ministry has urged the public not to fall victim to this scam.
