The International Cricket Council (ICC) has finalized the qualification process for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The tournament will feature 20 teams, with 12 automatic qualifiers and 8 positions to be filled through Regional Qualifiers.

The top eight teams from the 2024 edition of the tournament will secure automatic qualification, joining hosts India and Sri Lanka.

Additionally, between two and four remaining spots will be allocated to the next best-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings table as of 30 June, 2024, depending on the host finishing positions.

For the eight remaining positions, Regional Qualifiers will determine the participating teams.

This structure ensures representation from various cricketing regions, promoting inclusivity and providing opportunities for emerging cricketing nations to compete at the global level.

The decision was made during the recent ICC Board meeting held in Dubai, where discussions also centered around the future structure and context of international bilateral cricket.
