India women claim their 7th Asia Cup title

India Women defeated Sri Lanka Women by eight wickets in their Women’s Asia Cup 2022 final, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, today (15).

Chasing a target of 66 runs, India cruised to 71 for two in 8.3 overs with Opener Smriti Mandhana hammered an unbeaten half-century, clattering 51 runs off 25 balls.

Crushed by Indian bowlers, Sri Lanka could only post 65 for nine in 20 overs, with Inoka Ranaweera remaining unbeaten after registering 18 runs off 22 balls.

Renuka Singh took three wickets for India while Sneh Rana and Rajeshwari Gayakwad bagged two-wicket hauls respectively.

Nadeesha wins Silver at Asian Games

Nadeesha Dilhani Lekamge has won the silver medal in the women’s javelin throw event at the 2023 Asian Games currently being held in Hangzhou, China.

She won the silver with an impressive throw of 61.57m which is also her personal best.

India’s Annu Rani won the gold medal in the event while China’s Lyu Huihui won the bronze medal.

This is the first athletics medal for Sri Lanka at the Asian Games in 17 years and only the second medal for the island nation so far this year.

Sri Lanka-Afghanistan warm-up match today

The warm-up match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the Cricket World Cup series will be held today at 2 pm at the Thiruvananthapuram Stadium.

The Sri Lanka team is led by Dasun Shanaka and the Afghan team is led by Hashmatullah Shahidi.

In the first warm-up match, Sri Lanka was defeated by Bangladesh.

Afghanistan’s warm-up match with South Africa was abandoned due to rain.

The warm-up matches will end today and the World Cup matches will begin on the 5th with the match between England and New Zealand.

New position for Sanga at MCC

The Marylebone Cricket Club has announced that former star cricketer of Sri Lanka – Kumar Sangakkara will remain on the MCC Committee as the new Chair of the MCC World Cricket committee.

He will chair a committee which includes other exceptional cricketers including Sourav Ganguly, Heather Knight, Justin Langer, Eoin Morgan and Graeme Smith, the MCC notes.

He replaces former England captain Mike Gatting, who had six years in the role.

Sangakkara was President of MCC from 2019-2021.
