LPL inaugural player auction on June 14

The inaugural player auction of the Lanka Premier League will be conducted on June 14, 2023.

The much-awaited auction will take place at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.

This is the first time the tournament, which is Sri Lanka’s topmost domestic T20 league with an international flavor, is conducting a player auction, Sri Lanka Cricket states.

Each franchise team will bring in a sum of US$ 500,000 for the auction to bid for players, thus totaling up to an overall sum of US$ 2.5 million from all five teams, it adds.

The 4th Edition of the League will be held from July 30 to August 20, 2023.

Sri Lanka bags series with 2nd T20 win

Sri Lanka bagged the T20I series against Afghanistan after winning the 2nd T20i game held today (Feb. 19) at Dambulla by 72 runs.

Batting first, the hosts set a target of 188 runs before limiting the visitors to just 115 runs.

In another milestone, Sri Lankan skipper Wanindu Hasaranga became the second Sri Lankan bowler to claim a 100 T20 wickets.

Tense situation near Dambulla Cricket stadium

A tense situation had taken place earlier this afternoon at the Dambulla International Cricket grounds after the public arrived to purchase tickets for the ongoing T20I series between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

However, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had previously announced tickets for the last two T20 games have already been sold out and urged the public to refrain from arriving at the ticket counters at Colombo and Dambulla, which have been closed since.

Regardless, people had turned up at the Dambulla International Cricket grounds ahead of today’s T20 match, and broken through the barricades in a bid to reach the ticket counters.
