The International Masters League (IML) is set to feature legendary cricketers from six cricketing giants India, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, South Africa, and West Indies in an exciting T20 franchise tournament. The inaugural edition will take place from November 17, 2024, to December 8, 2024.
The legendary cricketer Kumar Sangakkara is set to lead Sri Lanka in this tournament. Sachin Tendulkar (India), Shane Watson (Australia), Eoin Morgan (England), Brian Lara (West Indies) and Jacques Kallis (South Africa) will lead the other five teams.
The D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai is set to host the opening leg of four matches for the International Masters League. The tournament will begin with an exciting clash between India and Sri Lanka on November 17, featuring a nostalgic face-off between Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. The second match will see Shane Watson’s Australia take on Jacques Kallis’ South Africa, followed by Sri Lanka facing off against Eoin Morgan’s England. Brian Lara and the West Indies team will then go up against Australia in what is expected to be a thrilling contest.
After the initial matches in Navi Mumbai, the International Masters League action will shift to Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee (BRSABV) Ekana Cricket Stadium on November 21, where India will face South Africa. Lucknow will host a total of six matches Sanga to lead Sri Lanka at IML 2024before the league moves to Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium. Raipur will feature eight games, including the highly anticipated semi-finals and the grand final on December 8, where the first-ever champions of the International Masters League will be crowned.
Cricket icon and League Ambassador Sachin Tendulkar expressed his excitement about the International Masters League (IML), saying, “As the ambassador and face of the IML, I am looking forward to leading and representing India Masters in the league. The action on the field will no doubt be competitive and exciting. All the players are enthused at the prospect of playing the IML at multiple venues. It’s an opportunity to inspire the next generation while celebrating the sport that we all love.”

League Commissioner Sunil Gavaskar said, “Stalwarts from every country will be playing the International Masters League. The Attorney General has filed an indictment before the Hambantota High Court against former Sri Lankan cricketer Sachindra Madushanka Senanayake.
Senanayake faces charges of attempting to induce national cricketer Tharindu Hasanka Ratnayake into match-fixing during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) tournament in 2020.
The allegations include soliciting, inducing, or instructing the player in a manner that violates Section 5(a) of the Prevention of Offenses Relating to Sports Act No. 24 of 2019.
Senanayake is also said to have allegedly contacted two other cricketers participating in the inaugural Lanka Premier League (LPL) tournament in 2020 via telephone from Dubai, attempting to persuade them to engage in match-fixing. He had previously been released on bail in connection with those allegations.

A settlement was reached today before the Court of Appeal regarding the petition filed by national cricketers against a decision made by the Inland Revenue Department to impose withholding tax on them by treating them as employees of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
The writ petition was filed by Sri Lanka’s national cricket players, challenging what they term as an arbitrary and unreasonable classification of national cricketers as employees of SLC by the Inland Revenue Department.
The petition was taken up before a Court of Appeal bench comprising Acting President of the Appeals Court Justice Mohamed Laffar Tahir and Justice Priyantha Fernando.
The court issued formal notices on the respondents, including the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), following an agreement between the parties for an interim settlement.
Accordingly, Sri Lanka Cricket agreed to make the necessary payments to cricketers, and it was also agreed that the relevant withholding tax amounts would be remitted to the Inland Revenue Department starting from June.
In the event that the petitioners receive a favorable verdict from court, it was also agreed that the taxes withheld in this manner would be refunded.
Additionally, a settlement was reached between the parties on several other related matters as well.
Meanwhile, these petitions were fixed for argument on 6th, 14th and 18th November this year.
