The very first women’s tennis team ever to represent Saudi Arabia at an international tournament competed in an event of the International Tennis Federation at Sri Lanka Tennis Association’s courts on Sir Marcus Fernando in Colombo this week.

The 4-member team is competing at the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Junior pre-qualifiers.

The 4-member team has been quite impressive and faced another series of matches yesterday too.

Saudi Arabia, a country known for its repressive laws and regulations on women, appears to be reforming in its sports and has allowed its girl’s tennis team to play internationally.

The tennis team’s participation in Colombo follows reforms that have opened up opportunities in sports for Saudi women.

The team members were extremely optimistic about the future of the sport and spoke strongly about its advancement in the international arena.
