SL beat Netherlands by 21 runs

Sri Lanka bagged the first match of the Super Six leg of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, winning against Netherlands by 21 runs.

Having won the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first, and set a 213 on scoreboard as they were all out at the end of 47.4 overs.

Dhananjaya de Silva  made 93 in 111 deliveries, while Dimuth Karunaratne hit 33 in 51 balls. Maheesh Theekshana  28, Wanindu Hasaranga  20 and Kusal Mendis  scored 10 for Sri Lanka’s scoreboard.

Logan van Beek and Bas de Leede picked up stunning 03 wickets in each for the Netherlands, while Saqib Zulfiqar took 02 wickets.

While chasing the 213 registered by Sri Lanka, the Netherlands could only score 192 runs as they were all out at the end of 40 overs.

Captain Scott Edwards hit 67*, Bas de Leede  41 for the Netherlands, and Wesley Barresi  was run out for 52.

Maheesh Theekshana picked up 03 wickets towards Sri Lanka’s big win, Wanindu Hasaranga 02, while Dasun Shanaka, Dilshan Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara took one in each.

Sri Lanka to host ICC AGM

In a statement, SLC mentioned that the mega cricket conference will bring together over 220 delegates from 108 ICC member countries from across the world, covering regions such as Africa, the Americas, Asia, East Asia Pacific, and Europe.

The pinnacle gathering of cricket administrators and stakeholders from around the globe, the ICC Annual Conference provides the platform for discussions on the strategic direction of the sport, governance, and the development of cricket worldwide, it added.

This year’s conference, themed “Capitalizing on the Olympic Opportunity,’ will discuss topics such as ‘Diversity and Inclusion,’ ‘environmental sustainability and the sport,’ and ‘Cricket’s triumphant return at LA28.

“This is a significant occasion for Sri Lanka, and we wish to warmly welcome the delegates from around the world to our beautiful island. We intend to use this conference to contribute to the future of cricket and showcase the beauty and heritage of our country to the world,” said Mr. Shammi Silva, President, Sri Lanka Cricket.

The annual conference will consist of a series of key meetings, workshops, and networking sessions, and key decisions will be taken for the benefit of the future of the game.

Revised schedule for India’s tour of Sri Lanka announced

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on Saturday that the schedule for India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka has been revised, with the series now starting on July 27, a day later than originally planned.

The revised schedule is as follows:

T20Is

  – July 27, 2024 – 1st T20I at Pallekele

  – July 28, 2024 – 2nd T20I at Pallekele

  – July 30, 2024 – 3rd T20I at Pallekele

ODIs

  – July 31, 2024 – 1st ODI (D/N) at Colombo (RPS)

  – August 2, 2024 – 2nd ODI (D/N) at Colombo (RPS)

  – August 4, 2024 – 3rd ODI (D/N) at Colombo (RPS)

Wanindu resigns from captaincy

In a statement, Sri Lanka Cricket has  announced that National Men’s T20I Captain Wanindu Hasaranga has decided to resign from the captaincy.

According to Sri Lanka Cricket, Wanindu Hasaranga said it is in the best interest of Sri Lanka Cricket that he decided to relinquish the captaincy duties and remain in the side as a player.

Wanindu Hasaranga in his resignation letter said that Sri Lanka will always have his utmost best efforts as a player, and vouched to continue his support and stand by his team and leadership as always. 

Sri Lanka Cricket, while accepting his resignation, said that Hasaranga will remain an important player for the team in their international cricketing plans.
