Sri Lanka make it to Super Six round

The teams of Sri Lanka, Scotland and Oman who competed under Group B in ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 have been selected for the Super Six round.

The teams of West Indies, Netherlands and hosts Zimbabwe who competed under Group A were also selected for the Super Six round.

The two teams that qualify for the finals from among the teams in Super Six round will play in the ODI World Cup in India.

Anton Roux steps down as SL fielding coach

Sri Lanka men’s cricket team fielding coach, Anton Roux, announced that he is stepping down from his position.

Roux, a former South African first-class cricketer and former coach of the Netherlands, took on the role with Sri Lanka in March 2022.

“On the 14th of August 2024, I decided to step down from my role as the National Fielding Coach for Sri Lanka Cricket. This week will be my last with SLC as I finish my handover. It has been an immense honour and a truly humbling experience to serve the Sri Lankan national cricket team. I will forever cherish the memories and experiences that came with this journey.”

SL wins several medals at S. Asian Junior Athletics C’ships

Sri Lankan athletes have clinched several medals at the 4th South Asian Junior Athletics Championships 2024 in India.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka’s Savindu Avishka has won the gold medal in the Men’s 800m final.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s 800m final, Tharushi Abhisheka has won the gold medal while Sansala Himashini has secured the bronze.

Merone Wijesinghe won gold in the Men’s 100m final where Dineth Weeraratna bagged the silver.

During the Women’s 100m final, Shanela Seneviratne bagged the Bronze while Dhanani Rashma took 4th place.

The three-day South Asian Junior Athletics Championships kicked off at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday (Sep. 10) with a group of 53 junior athletes from Sri Lanka attending the event.
