“Indian archers also joined Archery world record event” (Update)

The new Archery world record set in Sri Lanka over the weekend has been reached with the collaboration of India, organizers have clarified.

Speaking to ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’, Chairman of the organising committee – Captain Indranath Perera (Rtd.) said that out of the 128 archers who joined the event, 24 were Indian nationals.

The new world record was set in Sri Lanka by shooting 30,000 arrows in one hour and 40 minutes by 128 archers on July 16. The previous record was held by India after a 100 Indian archers shot 17,000 arrows in one hour and 30 minutes.

Sri Lankan archers break India’s world record!

Sri Lankan archers set a new world record by shooting 30,000 arrows in one hour and forty minutes using 128 archers yesterday (16).

The archers managed to set this world record at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium during an event organized by the Sagittarius Archery Club and Race Course Archery Club.

The previous world record was held by India. Indian archers shot 17,000 arrows in one hour and thirty minutes with the participation of 100 archers.

Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne who was present at the event was awarded the certificate with regard to the record recognised by the Cholan Book of World Records.

Keheliya produced before court

Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, who has been arrested and remanded in connection with 03 cases filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), has been produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court by prison officials.

The case is scheduled to be taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali today (May 20).

‘Sisu Sariya’ driver arrested for drunk driving

A school bus driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during an inspection of a ‘Sisu Sariya’ bus conducted by the Katupotha Police Traffic Division yesterday (May 19) in Katupotha.

The suspect has been identified as a 52-year-old resident of Radaliyagoda, Katupotha.

At the time of the arrest, 16 school children and 02 mothers were traveling in the bus.

The relevant bus has also been taken into police custody, and the suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Narammala Magistrate’s Court today (May 20).

Police are continuing island-wide operations to apprehend drunk drivers and curb traffic violations in an effort to enhance road safety.
