Sumeda sets new national javelin throw record

Sumeda Ranasinghe has set a new national record in the javelin throw with a remarkable distance of 85.78 meters, surpassing the previous record of 85.45 meters held by Rumesh Tharanga since 2024. 

This achievement also secures his qualification to represent Sri Lanka at the upcoming World Championships in Japan.

Ranasinghe is the first Sri Lankan athlete to meet the direct qualification standard this season, marking a significant milestone in his career and for Sri Lankan athletics. 

His performance highlights the country’s growing potential in track and field events on the global stage.
