In a dramatic turnaround, Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn his retirement after intervention from Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He met her on Friday afternoon after being invited for a meeting. Tamim was in the Prime Minister’s residence with his wife, his former captain Mashrafe Mortaza and BCB president Nazmul Hassan. Tamim briefed the media outside the residence.
Tamim had made a shock retirement announcement on Thursday, a day after he had captained Bangladesh in the first ODI against Afghanistan. Nazmul, whose public criticism of Tamim may have played some role in sparking the sudden announcement, had voiced his hope that he would change his mind while addressing a midnight press conference.
In the interim, the BCB had appointed Litton Das captain for the second and third ODIs against Afghanistan.
