China reports 17 more cases amid new infections in Wuhan

China reported 17 new virus cases on Monday, its second consecutive double-digit increase.

Five of the new cases were reported in Wuhan, where the virus first emerged.

There is growing concern over a cluster of cases in north-eastern Shulan city in Jilin province.

Reuters reported that 11 new coronavirus cases were reported in Shulan over the weekend, all of them family members or people linked to the woman who tested positive last Thursday.

Initially the risk level was raised from low to medium. But within 24 hours, Jilin officials increased the public health gauge to high.

The Jilin government has locked down schools and halted all non-essential travel.
