Police used live ammunition to disperse demonstrators in the Myanmar city of Mandalay and at least 20 people were injured, the BBC adds, citing ground reports.
Hundreds had gathered for the rally at a shipyard in Myanmar's second largest city.
Social media posts claim that 'snipers' were used not only on the protestors, but also on ambulances and volunteers helping the injured. Posts also allege that iron spikes and stones were also thrown into the crowds which were also tear gassed.
Protesters are demanding the release of Aung San Suu Kyi' along with other members of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party.
