4 children rescued from dangling cable car in Pakistan

Four children have been rescued from a group of six children and two adults who have been trapped in a cable car dangling above a ravine in Pakistan, BBC reports.

That number has been provided by Faisal Karim Kundi, the central secretary of information of the Pakistan People’s Party, who had spoken to the BBC.

The children, aged between 10 and 16, were going to school in Battagram when one of the cables snapped – leaving the car stuck 274m (900 ft) above ground.

A 16-year-old boy in the car has a heart condition and has been unconscious for at least two hours, an adult stuck in the car had told the BBC.

They have been trapped for more than 10 hours – and a local resident tells the AFP news agency the car is now “suspended by a single rope”.

Pakistan’s military had carried out the first two rescues in a high-risk operation complicated by gusty winds.
