French President dissolves parliament and calls snap elections

French President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the lower house of France’s parliament, after his party was handed a humbling defeat by the far-right in the European elections on Sunday. 

 This surprise announcement sends voters back to the polls in the coming weeks. The legislative elections will take place in two rounds on 30 June 30 and 7 July.
