The price of a kilogram of chicken which was Rs.1,500 in the recent past has decreased to Rs.1,080.
The poultry monopoly in Sri Lanka is held by five major companies namely CIC, Prima, Nelna, Crysbro, Bairaha and Pussella and these companies had the final say in deciding prices of chicken.
A small businessman related to poultry farming told the ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ that it is now an open secret that these businessmen have very close relations with the leaders of the political sphere in Sri Lanka.
Therefore, he said that these companies also get the support of politicians to increase the price at will.
