10-hr water cut tomorrow for Colombo & suburbs

A 10- water cut will be imposed in several parts of Colombo tomorrow (March 25), the National Water Supply & Drainage Board (NWSDB) says.

The water supply will be halted from 11.00 am – 09.00 pm for an essential maintenance work done by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

Thereby, water supply will be disrupted for the Colombo, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia and Kaduwela municipal council areas and the Maharagama, Boralesgamuwa and Kolonnawa urban council areas.

Water supply will also be interrupted for the Kotikawatta and Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha areas and the Ratmalana and Katubedda areas.

The event, held at the Foreign Ministry, was co-chaired by Foreign Secretary of Sri Lanka – Aruni Wijewardane and the Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs – Sun Weidong.

IMF Dy. Managing Director to arrive in SL tomorrow

Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – Kenji Okamura will arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (May 31) for a two-day official visit, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe says.

His visit comes days after a visit by the IMF staff team.

During his visit, Mr. Okamura is expected to hold several rounds of discussions on the recent changes in Sri Lanka’s economic stability and the opportunities to empower the economy in the future. Discussions will also focus on the methods to minimize the obstacles and delays hampering the economic recovery, reports say.

Govt. unable to bear total cost of ‘Sisu Seriya’ school bus service

It has been proposed to make parents pay 30% of the bus fees for the monthly season tickets issued to students.

The Minister of Transport and Highways and Media and the Cabinet Spokesman, Bandula Gunawardena, announced this at the weekly Cabinet briefing today (May 30).

He explained the economic situation and stated that if the government cannot recover at least 30% of the cost from parents, the Sisu Seriya” school bus service will have to be terminated.

“However, we have considered the education of school children, the country’s future and decided to pay 70%”, the Minister stated.

Meanwhile, it has also been decided to provide the service free of charge for the children of low-income families receiving subsidies, with parents who are unable to pay event the 30% of the fare, according to the minister.
