ADB President commends SL & pledges further support

Foreign Minister Ali Sabry met with the President of Asian Development Bank, Masatsugu Asakawa yesterday (02) in Seoul, Republic of Korea during the 56th Annual Meeting of the ADB.

The Minister expressed Sri Lanka’s gratitude for the excellent partnership and cooperation extended by the Asian Development Bank during a challenging period for Sri Lanka and for supporting the country’s recovery process.

Whilst conveying the best wishes of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister Sabry further sought technical support and financial assistance from the ADB in the spheres of digitalization, agriculture, renewable energy, and financial sector stability.

The ADB President expressed his appreciation for the encouraging work Sri Lanka has done so far to avert a greater crisis and for laying a strong foundation for the country’s recovery.  The ADB President pledged to continue engagement with Sri Lanka with renewed vigour in a variety of areas.

278 prison inmates to be pardoned

A total of 278 inmates at prisons across the island will be released tomorrow in view of Vesak festival, the Prisons Department said.

Parliament sessions were abruptly suspended until June 04 due to a lack of quorum. 

There were less than 20 member present during the time of suspension.

Notice for students sitting for Grade 5 scholarships

The Department of Examinations has announced that the 2024 Grade Five Scholarship Examination will be held on September 15 this year.

It adds that applications for the examination will be accepted online from May 27 – June 14, 2024 and acceptance of applications will not be extended beyond the announced period.
