Accepting applications for uni. admission commences

The University Grants Commission (UGC) said that applications for university admissions for the academic year 2022/23 would be accepted from today (14) until October 05.

UGC Chairman Prof. Sampath Amaratunge said that the applications can be submitted online via www.ugc.ac.lk.

Earlier, Prof. Amaratunge said that the government plans to enroll 45,000 students in state universities for the new academic year.

The results of the 2022 Advanced Level examination were released on September 04.

A total of 232,797 school applicants and 31,136 private applicants had sat for the exam which was held from January 23 to February 17 this year.

Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara said 149,487 school applicants and 17,451 private applicants have qualified for university admissions.

No change in Litro Gas prices for December

The Litro Gas Company says that the prices of its domestic LP Gas cylinders will remain unchanged for the month of December 2024.

Chairman of Litro Gas – Channa Gunawardena stated that the company decided to keep the prices of LP gas cylinders unchanged despite the price hike in the global market, in order to provide relief to the consumers.

Accordingly, the prices of Litro LP gas domestic gas cylinders will remain unchanged as follows:

12.5kg – Rs. 3,690
05kg – Rs. 1,482
2.3kg – Rs. 694

Tomorrow’s Parliamentary session to continue until 9.30 pm

It has been decided during the party leaders’ meeting to conduct tomorrow’s (Dec. 04) parliamentary session until 09.30 pm.

Accordingly, the adjournment debate regarding the disaster situation caused by the recent adverse weather conditions will be held from 05.30 pm – 09.30 pm tomorrow.
