ADB’s technical assistance for future water supply operations in SL

A meeting took place today (05) between the President’s Senior Adviser on National Security and Chief of Presidential Staff Mr. Sagala Ratnayaka, and Mr. Takafumi Kadono, Resident Mission Director of the Asian Development Bank.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the ADB was willing to provide the necessary knowledge and technical support for Sri Lanka’s new reform operation program in the water supply sector, along with capacity building projects of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.

The meeting extensively examined the plans and monitoring framework for the water supply sector in Sri Lanka, as well as discussed future steps. Mr. Ratnayake expressed gratitude for the bank’s support and advised officials to review progress on a monthly basis.

Notable participants in the discussion included Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Minister Jeevan Thondaman, Prime Minister’s Secretary Anura Dissanayake, and President’s Senior Adviser on Economic Affairs Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, among other relevant government officials.

Policeman shoots himself dead

A police sergeant shot himself near the Kotawila Court complex, using his service firearm.

The deceased is a 52-year-old sergeant attached to the Kotawila Police Station.He had killed himself at the police post of the Kotawila Court Complex after returning to work from a prolonged sick leave.

Political parties to be briefed on Regulation of Election Expenditure Act

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has decided to brief all political parties on the Regulation of Election Expenditure Act.

Chairman of the Commission – R. M. A. L. Ratnayake explained that the discussion will be held today (Feb. 27) and on March 06 as the upcoming elections will be the first to be held since the Act was passed.

According to the Regulation of Election Expenditure Act, all expenses incurred for the purpose of elections and campaigns must be limited, he noted.
