Announcement on Airport Ground Handling Field Skills Test

The new skills test in the field of Airport Ground Handling will be newly implemented on 10th March 2024 at University of Colombo – Faculty of Graduate Studies for working in Japan as specified skilled workers, announces the Embassy of Japan in Colombo.

Noting Application period is from Feb. 09 – 23, the embassy informs that applications will be closed when the number of applications reaches the capacity.

A group of party seniors including former President Maithripala Sirisena, the newly declared SLFP presidential candidate – Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa attended the event.

The rally was organised by the trade unions affiliated to the SLFP.

Ranil will have to bring down voters from India also – AKD

National People’s Power (NPP) leader – Anura Kumara Dissanayake severely criticized Tourism Board officials receiving the Indian singers who arrived in Sri Lanka to perform at the UNP May Day musical extravaganza.

Questioning whether the UNP May Day rally was an event of the Tourism Board, Mr. Dissanayake said, President Ranil will have to bring down voters from India just like he brought down the singers from India.

The NPP leader was speaking thus at the May Day rally held in Matara today.

The prevailing situation is due to the lack of discipline and organisational strength, he pointed out.

He pledged that this was the last May Day being marked under corrupt, criminals and  rulers who drove the country to its knees and bankruptcy.

Unable to increase daily wage – Plantation owners

Plantation owners have stated that they are unable to increase the minimum daily wage of estate workers.

Earlier today (April 30), the government issued a gazette notification increasing the daily wage of estate workers to Rs. 1700.

According to the planters’ association, the gazette has been issued with no final discussion with them and therefore, they are to seek legal redress to revoke the gazette.

According to a representative of the association, a special discussion in this regard will be held in Colombo tomorrow (May 02).
