The Attorney General has instructed to arrest the chief custodian of the Ruhunu Kataragama Devalaya and the custodian in charge of the Devala store room, over a 38-pound gold offering that had gone missing.

The offering had been made by the wife of former underworld leader Angoda Lokka.

Accordingly, the chief custodian – Dhurandara Somipala Ratnayake and his grandson – Saman Priyantha or Chuti Kapu Mahathaya, who is in charge of the temple’s storeroom, are to be arrested.

Following a complaint lodged in Oct. 2021 by the Basnayaka Nilame of the Ruhunu Kataragama Devalaya – Dishan Wickramaratne Gunasekara, the case was later handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division.

The CCD had filed a case at the Tissamaharama Magistrate Court in this regard and sought the directives of the Attorney General, which had been given by yesterday (Nov. 07).
